convert l visa to x2 in china

Hi, I just got accepted for a one-semester Chinese course but it seems like the Admission notice & JW202  may not reach me in time.  Can I just get an L type to enter China and pick up the documents in person at the university and apply for an X2 type in PRC?  If yes, how much would the X2 type fee in china be?Thanks a lot.

No, you are advised to wait for those documents and then apply directly for the X2 type. To convert L to X2 within China is now not allowed.
