Smog in September for Beijing & Hong Kong

Is September a bad month for smog in Beijing & Hong Kong? We are planning a trip there for Sept. 21st to Oct. 3rd, 2014. Thanks

Generally, the weather conditions in september is ok. The smog usually appears in winter and early spring.
