About:China Visa on Arrival

I'm US citizen in Bangkok. Can I go to Beijing golf show for 2 days in Mar 14-16 without application?

I read new laws and foreign nationals can go Beijing for 72 hrs with return flight. Does this mean I only need stay permit and if so, can I acquire upon entry?

Sorry, I don't think you can take the advantage of 72 hours free transit since you depart and return to the same place.
