About:China Green Card (Permanent Residence Permit)

Permanent residence application.

My work permit & visa has two more two years validity. I will be 62 years old then. Can I new my permit & visa then? If not, should I apply for a permanent residence now? and does it affect my current Z/work permit status? I have been in China for more than 18 years and hold a senior executive position (GM). Thank you.

Hi, you can start working towards fulfilling the requirements for permanent residence permit now. The application does not affect your current working/residence status. And as far as I know, you can still renew your work permit until age 65.

I am also 62 years old and have been in China for over 18 years and had Z all that time and always worked. I am now General Manager for a European company. This week I applied to renew it by first applying for a renewal work permit (I've been with this company for 4 years so 4 years of permits). My work permit has been refused because I am over 60 years old. They will give me a 3 or 6 month permit in order to find a replacement GM! By the way, I have a Chinese family here and have invested a lot in property but that counts for nothing. The permanent (D visa) is a nightmare to get (I failed once before) and takes at least 6 months. Looks like I have to quit my job and if I want to stay (now questionable) then I will go for the marriage Q type.
