We are visiting the synagogue turned museum tomorrow and will ask if there is a list. I believe there is, since when I emailed them from New York, I told them that my husband's uncle had also come there during the war. The museum employee emailed me back to find out his name, which probably means they are keeping a list.
Based on our uncle's directions, when we were here in 1984, we found a taxi driver who remembered "The Jewish Church" and took us there. The synagogue had been turned into a MUNITIONS PLANT!! We found the balcony, the place where the eternal light would have been, a place for a Succoth in the back...but were afraid to stay too long for fear of the government.
We have a picture of us in front of the Synagogue in 1984. We became engaged in China (Canton) on that trip and now are back to celebrate our 30th Anniversary with our two sons, and to celebrate their college graduation and acceptance into an MBA Program.
