About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Transit in Shanghai for 17 hrs. Can I stay in a hotel near airport without a visa? Iam from Melboure

My transit hrs from Melbourne to Shanghai from China Eastern is 17hrs. Can I sat in a nearby hotel until closer to my flight time which is 1.00pm? As I arrive 7.20 pm on the 14th and leaving on the15th at 1.00pm. Please advise.

Hi, you can do this without any problem. Actually you are exempted from visa to transit through Shanghai if your stopover is less than 72 hours. If you want to go out for a hotel, you just need to apply for a transit permit at the airport showing your passport and flight ticket.
