However, I would like to base my stay in a hotel in Hong Kong where I hope to fly to from the UK and then travel into Shenzhen possibly daily during my trip. What types should I be applying for.

Hi, you are able to get Shenzhen VOA at Luohu port each time. But if possible, you are advised to apply for a Chinese multiple entry F for this visit.
