About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Single entry Visa F - options?

Dear anyone who can help me! I am in china on a F type, unfortunately did not realise the "single entry" would mean that it lapses once I leave China. I booked a holiday to Thailand and had to cancel it once I realised this. But now I wonder is there a way around it. My question is:
Would it be possible to simply leave China via Hong Kong, automatically apply for a new one while in Hong Kong for L type and thereafter travel to Thailand, come back to Hong Kong then to collect it for China one week later? I need to come back to PRC just for the month of January, even though I am finished studies, just to pack up and fly home. L type would be appropriate right?

Thanks for any input and guidance. I don't speak Chinese and my visit to my local PSB was not fruitful! They directed me to the PSB in HK, which I am unable to contact.

It's ok that you can get a L type in HK. I don't know if you can apply for a L in Thailand. Why not ask the Chinese embassy in Thailand if you can apply for it there? If possible, it is not necessary for you to fly to HK to do it.

Kate here, thanks. I picked HK as flights are direct to Koh Samui from there. Plus there is an option to get a 1 day express visa there. I only have 7 days and I don't want to spend half of it waiting for a visa in Bangkok. I suppose the tricky issue is whether it might be problematic to reapply. Since I have a F type which is good until the end of January 2014. But I am choosing to go out and break it, therefore I wondered if it does technically "lapse" or would a new L somehow overlap?I'll call the embassy in Thai and ask too. Cheers :)
