About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I go through to the other side into the arrivals hall to meet family at the airport using the 72 hr visa?

I have a 5 hr layover in Shanghai between arriving from NZ on AirNZ and leaving on Virgin Atlantic for London. Can I check my baggage straight through to London from NZ or must I collect it in Shanghai and then recheck it through ?

As for baggage checking, I think you should confirm this with your airlines. By the way, I think you can meet your families by using 72 hours free transit policy.
