About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

What type of Visa if any do I need for my travel beginning in Washingon,DC to Shanghai

I will be traveling from Washington DC (USA) to Shanghi, China to board a cruise but plan to arrive 2days before going on board the cruise. Do I need one to enter Shanghai and will I need one for the cities/countries (Bejing, Seoul, South Korea, JEJU, South Korea, Kobe, Fuji, Japan and Tokyo, Japan) we are visiting while on the cruise? we are planning on traveling Oct 9-Oct26. What is the weather like at that time and what should we pack? WE will not spend more than 72 hours at any said location. Will we qualify for the 72 hours free transit?

Sorry, I don'think think you are qualified for 72 hours free transit because you leave Shanghai and take a cruise. Since your cruise trip covers Beijing, I think you should apply for a L type in advance before you fly to Shanghai. The weather in Shanghai and Beijing during that time is nice. You don't have to bring thick clothes.
