About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I do this without getting a visa? Am I eligible?

I am flying Taipei-Beijing-Houston with a 14 hour overnight stop at PEK. I'd like to be able to leave the airport and sleep at a hotel.

You are eligible for the 72 hours free transit. So you can get out and leave in a hotel.
