About:China Transit Visa

Finnish citizen travelling from Helsinki to Malesia via Chongqing and Guangzhou

Hello! I am travelling from Helsinki to Malesia (Kuala Lumpur) by flying from Finland to Chongqing, from Chongqing to Guangzhou and finally from Guangzhou to Malesia. In this case, I will not be staying in China for more than 24 hours.

When I am coming back, I am flying from Malesia to Guangzhou, then from Guangzhou to Chongqing and have to stay in a hotel in Chongqing overnight. In the next morning, I am flying from Chonging to Finland. In this case too, I will not be staying in China for more than 24 hours.

Do I need a Visa or not? Both Chongqing and Guangzhou should be 72 hours free cities.

You don't need one but you should apply for the stay permit when you arrive at the first airport (Chongqing when you arrive and Shanghai when you return to your country). By the way, you pass two cities so that you are not eligible for the 72 hours free transit.
