About:Embassy & Consulates of India in China

Do I have to come to the Indian embassy in person to receive a visa? How soon can it be processed?

I am a Canadian, living in Shanghai. I would like to visit India at the end of January but I do not want to visit Bejing. Can I apply for a tourist visa for India online or by mail? How long can I expect the process to take?
