12 month multiple entry tourist visa

Does anyone know if it is still possible to obtain either a 6 or 12 month multiple entry tourist type for an Australian citizen? I called & spoke to a lady in the Melbourne visa processing office who rudely told me I wasn't able to get one without providing any further relevant info.
