question about the storageuse of dyes from spicesherbs at temple of heaven

I would like to know more about the use of herbs and spices in dye fabrics which I first learned of when I visited the Temple of Heaven in Beijing - Alter of Prayer for good harvests, and the Empress who looked after these.

As I know, you just need to put them in dry and dark places. If you see it wet, please dry them in sunshine.

Sorry I did not make myself very clear.  I was intending to ask about the Emperess Cixi and her previous rulers purchase and storage of herbs and spices at the Temple of Heaven.  For instance, did she purchase from the Arabs or were they grown in China.  I know from visiting the Temple she took all the herbs and spices for the silk industry.  I am interested also in any Chinese use of herbs and spices from ancient times to the present.SincerelySharyn Black
