Hi, you can try to apply for a double entry tourist L for this visit. The L can also be extended once time when you are in China. Or at least, you can apply for a new L in HK for another 30 days.

thanx arthur, But i read it is also possible to obtain a single entry with a duration of maximum three months. is that also a possibility?

we could renew our double entry of course, but i'm not sure if the chinese government will allow it... If they dont, we need to go alter our holiday plans thoroughly...

The fact is that a single entry tourist L is generally issued with 30 days, and it can be extended once without problem. So that will be 60 days in total. I have no idea about the possibility for the L issued with longer duration. However, for double entry L application, documents showing travel itinerary such as flight tickets (including re-renty) and hotel booking are required. As what I said above, once you stay until the end of the 60 days, you can exit to HK and apply for a new L there.
