About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Short Trip

Hello, thanks for the very helpful info. I am presently in India but a US citizen. I am planning to go from India to Shanghai and leave within 72 hours and head to Bangkok. I'll have confirmed tickets. Would that work? I will have a "layover" in Bangkok on the way to Shanghai from India. I dont think that would matter as it would still mean that I departed from India and went to Shanghai and then leaving Shanghai and going to a "third" country..ie. Thailand. Correct?

Thanks!

I am afraid not if you fly this itinerary. You can also confirm this with Shanghai airport directly at 0086-21-51105100.

I meant I will not stop and clear immigartion and customs in Bangkok on the way to Shanghai. Just a connecting flight. I will be stopping in Bangkok when I fly out of Shanghai..so my country of departure is India, Arrival in Shanghai and then going to Bangkok..and then back to India. I will have confirmed tickets for all these.

Still not workable???

Yes, I am clear what you mean. But I am afraid this is not allowed. I have a friend who was refused entry when he took fight via Guangzhou from the Philippines to Thailand and was told that the destination should be in a different region.
