The cheapest way should be train service. Two trains run for this journey - T8357/T8360 (CNY137 for a soft seat) and T8361/T8364 (CNY91 for a hard seat and CNY156-167 for a hard sleeper). Both of them leave from GZ East to Shantou Station. Around GZ East, I know there is a Mumianhua Hotel, budget hotel, around 850m away. Around Shantou Railway Station, the Huihuang Taojing Hotel and Seven Days Inn can be considered.
