ticket from shanghai to beijing

i am arriving shanghai on 31/1/2014 . and i wish to travel to beijing on 3/2/2014 is that possible to buy from railway station and will return to shanghai on 6/2/2014. can i buy it on advance or any advise . what if i cannot get. can i get a train from shanghai to suzhou? on the date above? please advise.
