L type is needed. The required documents are your passport (valid for six months at least and with two blank pages), filled 2013 application form (hand written one is not accepted) and recent passport size photo, round-trip air tickets and hotel bookings (or invitation letter), a letter from your employer or recent six months bank balance.

When you get the documents ready, you can apply from the CVASC branch in Bombay in person or ask an agent or your friend/family to hand in your applications. It costs 65 indian dollars per person.
