About:China Work Visa

Renewal of Work permit/Residence Permit.

The Hangzhou Municipal and Social Security Office mandated a Criminal Background Certificate for Foreign applicants to get the work permit. It was worded that people who needed this were people coming not the city and not necessarily for renewals. So last week, I went searching for their office to ask them.

Ended up getting pointed to to the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Foreign Affairs. I was told there that I did not need the certificate since I was already in country. Sort of my question is, will the PSB require the criminal certificate or will they just go on what is approved from the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Foreign Experts?

My assumption is that there are three hurdles in the renewal process,

1. Foreign Experts Bureau
2. Medical
3. PSB.

Is this still the case?

If the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Foreign Affairs says you don't need it, then you needn't prepare for it. Yes, you have to extend yoru foreign expert certificate, do medical examination and then apply from the entry and exit administration department in the PSB. Here is another thing. You need to get a letter from your employer and the copies of your company's Code Certificate and business license.

If possbile, ask your company, school or organization to handle it. It's a bit complicated.
