About:Nanjing Museum

Old and new Nanjing museum

On Internet, there is confusing information about NJ museum. There seems to be a museum in an old, beautiful, traditional building, but it is unclear whether this building is open to the public. There also is a project showing an ultra-modern building which is supposed to open in 2013 or 2014. Will objects from the old museum be transferred to the new one? Will any of these museums be open in May 2014?

According to the latest news report, the NJ Museum will open in the next month and it is around at Nov 6.
No new musuem is built, so on that day, the old, beautiful and traditional building will open to the public again. The old building was under repairing for the reopening. So on Nov. 6, you can still see the old building.
I am not very clear about whether the ultra-modern building you said is the Exhibition Hall for precious and special items. If so, the new Special Exhibition Hall will open on Nov. 6.

Hi Yes two Museums - actually the first modern building is really just a reception and pick up tickets.... information
The second modern building is the Museum - there is also a third at the back for special exhibitions.
The Older more traditional building is also a museum. So plenty to look at.
