Letter requirements, Do I need this to get a visa?

I am Canadian and plan to visit friends who have Canadian passports but are living and working in China. My friend has a copy of her passport and gave me a letter with all the written details but I do not have a copy of her residence permit.

You can ask your friend to send you a photo of his/her passport and resident permit copies. Previously, these two copies are required.
