transitting from shanghai to bkk with a 24hr wait in kunming...

Question

Im canadian..flying to bkk, YVR-PVG-KMG-BKKI have a 24hr wait in KM... I understand I can ask immigration to allow me to leave the airport at their discretion. I'd like to get a hotel for the overnight wait for my flight to bkk.Is there a hotel at the airport in case I wont be allowed out?Also can I wander about the complete airport and mingle or will I be in a restricted area with only other transiting passengers?thxGordon

I heard there is a airport hotel for KM airport, but I am not very clear about its detail information, so it is suggested to consult the airport after you reach there. If you can get out of the airport, you can travel around the airport and you will not be restricted to certain places.
