Transitting from Shanghai to BKK with a 24hr wait in kunming...can I get hotel room at airport

Im canadian..flying to bkk, YVR-PVG-KMG-BKK
I have a 24hr wait in KM... I understand I can ask immigration to allow me to leave the airport at their discretion. I'd like to get a hotel for the overnight wait for my flight to bkk.

Is there a hotel at the airport in case I wont be allowed out?
Also can I wander about the complete airport and mingle or will I be in a restricted area with only other transiting passengers?
