About:China Visa Application Procedure and Fee

Is it possible to get a tourist visa now (october/November 2013) and not use it until April 2014?

Or does the validity start from the day of issue? My problem is I will be in Japan until April 2014 and want to travel directly to china afterwards.

I am afraid it is not a good idea. The validity is counted since the day you are granted with your visa. It is usually for three months. My suggestion is to apply for it just around one month before you leave.
