About:Erhai Lake

monastery on the south peak of the mountains west of Lake Erhai.

Just at dawn one morning in 1943 I was flying The Hump from Assam to Kunming and we flew low over
the south end of the mountain range west of Lake Erhai. Right at the summit was a monastery that looked like an empty swimming pool with windows and doors cut into the rock walls and many prayer flags flying
from bamboo poles. We made a complete circle around it (wishing we had a camera). There were no people in sight. Perhaps the airplane frightened them? Now, with Google Earth, I've looked many times for that monastery but cannot find it. Can you help me with any information? I've always wondered about it.
Thank you for your help.

Sorry, there seems no such a monastery or temple as you mentioned. If possible, you can send an email to ynta.gov.cn|info (email of Yunnan Tourism Bureau) to consult.

WE WENT TO DALI LAST JANUARY AND WENT UP A MOUNTAIN AND WE ONLY SAW A TEMPLE THAT LOOKED VERY OLD AND FEW PEOPLE LIVING IN ITS SURROUNDINGS, AFTER READING THIS I FOUND THIS INFORMATION MAYBE IT WAS THIS FESTIVAL :
The grandest festival of the Bai people is the March Fair, held annually at the foot of Mt. Cangshan in Dali between the fifteenth and the twentieth day of the third lunar month. Originally it was religious activity to rally and pay homage, but it gradually evolved into a fair including performances of traditional sports and dance, as well as the trade of merchandise from different regions. Another important festival is the Torch Festival, held on the 25th day of the sixth lunar month to wish both health and a good harvest. On that evening, the countryside will be decorated with banners with auspicious words written upon them. Villagers will then light torches in front of their gates, then walk around the fields while holding yet more torches in order to catch pests.
