About:Chinese Currency & Money Exchange

It has been suggested to me that it is better to take US dollars and exchange them locally (guangdong) than to take RMB that I have bought in the UK (home).

Does this make any sense at all? Especially as I will need to change GBP tpo USD in order to take it with me?

In my opinion, it is not needed to change to USD first and then exchange in Guangdong.
You can take the GBP to China directly and change in China. It is much easier.
