after booking a ticket through an agency, you will get some documents to help you collect the ticket, but the most important requirements are your passport and the order number.

you can collect your ticket at any railway station within China.
but you'd better pick up it at your departure station.
for example, if the departure station is Chongqing North railway station, you are advised to collect it at the station 2 - 3 hours before departure or 1 day in advance. it is ok to collect it at a railway station in Chengdu City, but a service fee of CNY5 per ticket will be charged by the railway station.

We're excited about taking the G-train but they don't make it easy, so this might be a solution. Just realized that the Travel China Guide online booking service will deliver tickets to your hotel for $12 each booking. I'm going to sign up for that and hope it works well. It surely sounds a lot easier than running around Beijing to get a ticket the day before departure or the hassle of going to the train station a few hours early to stand in line.
