You need to provide the required documents: a filled application form for PRC passport/travel documents/return certificate, 4 recent (within six months) photos (48mmx33mm with light blue or white background), original and copies of your passport, original or copies of your legal status documents in the USA and other documents required by the consulate.

It costs 55 USD. The fee can be paid via Money Order, Cashier's Check, Master or Visa credit card. Cash and personal check are not accepted.

Hi all,

I just did renew my HKSAR passport in New York 2017-05-22.
Document required as below:
1) Money Order $67.
2) Photo 4 pcs (recommended be ready in CVS or other photo store)
3) Copies of passport, copy of HK ID, copy of USA Federal ID to prove your resident.
4) Forms are able to downloaded from HKSAR renew website. It's called ID843.
5) They will provide another 2 forms for you to fill in and a return envelope for passport pick up notification.
6) bring credit card to pay the fee at the end!

Procedures:
1) show the forms to securities and tell them for HKSAR passport renewal only, no appointment required.
2) get number on first floor, they have to review your forms and minimum paper works first.
3) hold the number to second floor to submit your forms.
4) get the receipt to first floor Window 9 to drop off the receipt.
5) take another number to Window 10 to make payment. Recommend to pay by credit card.
6) China embassy will mail the notification to you to pick up the passport there when it's ready.

Hi Sam,
Very helpful tips. I am looking into renewing my HK passport in NY.
How long was the process for renewal? Do you have to apply in person? Can you assign an entrusted friend for pickup? What is valid for "copy of USA Federal ID to prove your resident"? Will a driver license or SSI number work?

Thanks.

Hey, I have to renew my Hong Kong Passport via the China Embassy (NYC) in the coming August 2018.

Which is the official website of the China Embassy in NYC? There are lots of fake sites, which I don't even know which one to believe in.

Moreover, beside the $67 money order, is there any other fee that I have to prepare? Is the $67 money order still valid?

Thanks

Bon Wan

This is very useful, I just follow this procedure and submitted my HK passport renewal application. Thanks. The money order is still $67 for the thinner passport option. I don't know how much it's for the thicker 48 pages option.

I download the form from the Hong Kong Immigration Website.
Apart from the money order. After you have submitting everything at the counter. They will give you a payment slip for the admin fees, I think it's like $15 and you need to go back downstairs to window 9 to get a number with the payment slip and then go line up at window 10 and pay by debit or credit card. Then it's completed.

Link for the form for HK PASSPAORT application or "renewal" application for applicant residing outside Hong Kong at the official website of the HK immigration department.

So I am also about to renew my HK passport in NYC. I believe the 67 USD is consist of three parts,
1. $48.00 for the renewal fee
2. $6.00 for double registered airmail
3. $13.00 for the Bank handling charge
TOTAL: $67.00 USD

Besides the $67, they will also charge you $15 USD for the admin fee. But you can pay this fee by Credit card(Visa, Master)

Hope it helps.

Do you only need to give copies of your HKSAR Passport and HK Permanent ID card or you also need to send the originals?
