About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Working with residence permit

Hi,

I will go to Shanghai in January and will get my working (Z) there, and I am a little bit worried by the situation of my girlfriend. She will come with me to Shanghai, and we do not see a clear way of obtaining one.

I mean, the idea is that she will come with a tourist L, with the idea of finding a job as Spanish teacher somewhere. But, I have some related doubts that hopefully will be cleared by you guys:

1. If we are not married, is it possible for her to get the residence permit via my working Z? I have read positive and negative versions about it. Apparently some people have succeed by showing a certificate written by their consulate (in our case the Spanish Consulate), saying that we have been living together for X time and some other documents. But I do not see it clear.
If she gets the residence permit, can she work in China? I mean, if she finds a job in an academy or somewhere, can they get her a working Z or licence?

2. We are thinking about signing her to a Chinese academy and get the X on her arrival. The course must last at least 6 months for that and she would get the student X. During this time, she will have to get the residence permit? I guess so.

So the thing is, in case of finding a job as a teacher somewhere during the validity of the student X, can she change the X into a working Z or licence?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Hi, if your girlfriend wants to work in China, she should apply for a work Z type directly as you did. If you are not married, she is only able to get a tourist L with short stay, residence permit is not required then. Once she got an offer, she needs to leave and apply for a Z outside of mainland, maybe HK instead. Keep in mind that no visa can be issued on arrival, so if she wants to study, she should apply for student X directly before entering mainland PRC. X1 holders (for study longer than 6 months) are required to get residence permit within 30 days after entry. Changing types are impossible neither from Sept. 1st.
