In line with Simona's question. I am in China now with a Residence permit under my wifes name. I have been in here for 13 years and had several "Work Permit" books. My last one was cancelled when I left my last employer. NOW I am being told I HAVE TO leave the country to get a Z before coming back and applying for Work Permit. I this REALLY true???

Hi Simona, you should get the work permit/Foreigners Employment Permit of the PRC issued by Chinese government authorities for Human Resources and Social Security and an official invitation letter if the company is allowed to hire foreigners. As far as I know, it is possible to get the work Z in HK, using an agent if necessary.

To Brian, you should also get the work permit first and apply for a work Z out of of mainland PRC.

To Jackson, you can have a try to apply in HK instead. But changing types within mainland after entry is impossible, so you should better apply for work Z type directly with the work permit and official invitation letter got beforehead.
