About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

Is marriage registration necessary in the process of obtaining the residence permit?

I entered China with a L on Aug 28th and yesterday I just applied for a residence permit (based on my marriage with a chinese citizen).
We used accommodation registration, my current L, passport, her Hukou and ID card, physical examination record and our marriage certificate which we got it in Europe.
The question is, was it necessary to go to police and register our marriage here first in her Hukou or not? Police didn't ask us for that and we also didn't do it but they made a copy of her Hukou and didn't say anything. They also gave me a pick up paper to get my ID card after 2 weeks on 18th. Since I must leave the country on 24th I was wondering if it's a must to register our marriage here first or not?

Hi, it is not required. Your marriage certificate notarized by Chinese embassy is enough for residence permit application. But if time permits, the your Chinese spouse should change her marriage status at local police.

Alvin,
I had my bank account balance with myself but they didn't ask for it and a no criminal record certificate was not required. She's from Jilin province and here it takes 2 weeks as I mentioned.
I'll update the post on 18th.

Alvin,
They didn't ask me any other documents. Although the current rules and regulations still keep the possibility for the local PSB to decide about each specific case and also allow them to ask for further documents in case they think it's necessary. But for me, the above mentioned documents were enough.

Hi Mathias,

By the way when you the residence permit you did the medical examination as well? Anyways yes also in our province the same length of stay, before even no medical examination and not necessary to apply the residence permit the PSB immediately will provide 1 year L spouse visa mulitiple entry and no requirements of in and out china.

Just this recent that it will required a medical examination just to get a longer length of stay for spouse
