About:Chinese Consulate in New York

Is there a difference in fee between 2-year "L" (tourist) visa and 1-year L?

According to the DC Consulate website, the fee is the same for both 1-year and 2-year duration visas. However, I was told by a travel agent that the 2-year L (not officially listed on the NY Consulate website) costs $50 more than the 1-year L. This seems unreasonable to me, and like they are trying to milk me of extra money. Any idea what the fee is for a 2-year multi-entry L from the NY Consulate office?

Be careful, this must be a scam. Application Fee for US passport holders are the same regardless of types, and number of entries. As I know, long-term L is only available for Chinese citizens' spouses and children with American nationality, as well as the Chinese American born in China (including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) and their spouses and children. Additional documents are required such as invitation letter and kinship certificate.

Thanks for the reply Denny. I had asked the agency multiple times, "What accounts for the difference in price between the 1-year L and the 2-year L?" and the agency was repeatedly unable to give me a satisfactory answer. They kept saying "We are in Boston, so we are not familiar with the NY Consulate rules; we just go by what our associates in NY tell us," which seems like a cop-out to me. Because I was in a rush, I still used their services and begrudgingly agreed to the extra $50, but I still pressed them pretty hard on the extra fee, and told them I would never be using their services ever again if they can't explain it (my father and I are both long-time customers of this agency, and previously had spent probably over $10,000 combined in flights, visas, etc.)

You are right about my background; I am a USA citizen, with a Chinese spouse and both parent were born in Taiwan. I was cleared by the consulate for a 2 year L, but the agency is charging me $280 instead of their usual $230 (which includes an extra $50 on top of the normal $180 for "express" service).
