About:Chinese Consulates in Thailand

I am going to visit my american son in Bejing. I am a teacher in Thailand. Do I need a letter?

I will be a tourist in China at sometime in the near future. Can I get a visa with an open travel date and do I need to have a letter of intention from my son?

If your purpose is to visit your son, an invitation letter from him is required, as well as copies of his passport, residence permit and visa. But if you will stay in hotels with booking details, and return tickets, you can easily apply for a tourist L instead without invitation letter.
