Vietnamese student applying for Hong Kong visit visa in New York without sponsor

Hello,
I'm a Vietnamese student in New York, USA. I want to visit Hong Kong for 3 months. I don't know anyone in Hong Kong. Can I apply for it without a sponsor in Hong Kong? If yes, then what would be the easiest and fastest way? Can I do it in New York or I have to send everything to Hong Kong?
Thank you in advance.

Hi, it is ok for application if you do not have a local sponsor. You can provide round-trip ticket and hotel bookings, a bank statement as proof of financial support instead. Just submit your application to Chinese consulate in New York but they will send your application to HK for approval, so it may take about one month or even longer.

Thanks for your reply, Rex. Do you know how much money I should have as proof of financial support?
In the application form, do I have to list every place that I want to visit in Hong Kong? It will be a very long list.
Thank you.

There is no exact amount, but it should be no less than US$100 per day. You can list major places of visit based on time sequence for application.
