About:Visa Policy of China

which visa would be the best one to get to allow me to visit Hong Kong?

Hi,

I am travelling from the UK to Thailand via Guangzhou on a UK Passport. I have a 19 hour stopover in Guangzhou. Is it possible to go to Hong Kong for that period without any requirement?.

I am afraid not. You can enjoy free transit in Guangzhou and allowed to travel in whole Guangdong province during transit. But it is impossible to visit Hong Kong. If you do need to go to Hong Kong, you have to apply for a Chinese transit G visa.
