About:China Work Visa

I am supposed to be going to teach in China

the man over there did the Visa application there but said I need to do something here at the US Embassy in Washington, what do I need to.do here?

I think you mean Chinese embassy in Washinton, right? It is true because for Chinese work Z application, the Chinese company can only get for you the work permit/Alien Employment license, and invitation letter. You have to apply by yourself from the Chinese embassy in US. Basic requirements are your passport, copy of passport data page, application form, photo, medical report.
