Visiting Hong Kong from Mainland and returning to Mainland

As a Canadian, with a single entry visa to Mainland, can I visit Hong Kong AND THEN RETURN to Mainland again? Or do I need a multi-entry (for Mainland) ?
Thank you

You can not return to mainland again with a single entry because you will enter mainland twice. A double entry is required. If you have already got a single entry one, you can try to apply for a new visa while you are in HK.
