About:Chinese Embassy in New Zealand
US passport, would like to visit shenzhen, shanghai, taipei? visa free/ea stop 72 hrs?

Nope, you need to apply for a L one if you want to visit Shenzhen and Shanghai. As for Taipei, it's said that Americans can enter Taiwan without visa.
