Are you covered if your tourist expires whilst your work visa is in process??

I have a tourist L at the moment which expires on the 6th August. I've been offered a job in Shanghai and they can provide my work Z. If they apply before the 6th August and Its being processed til after the 6th August,will I be covered ??Or do I need a another tourist L to last until the work Z is processed??
