Tourist Visa for visiting China

Hi, I'm from Brazil and I'm in USA with a Tourist type one (B-1 B-2). I arrived here in USA in May 20th. I'm studying English in a ESL School accord with the rules of USA.
I woul like to visit China as a tourist (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Macao, Hong Kong...). Here in USA I'm sharing a house, renting just a bedroom. How can I apply for a Chinese L type in this situation? What documents should I provide as a prove of residence?

You need to bring your passport, filled application form, your recent passport size photo, your valid USA visa and invitation letter to apply at the nearest Chinese consulate. If you don't have the invitation letter, please provide round-trip air tickets, hotel reservation in China and your travel itinerary. Sometimes, you are required to provide financial proof.
