My Wife has a training session in Shanghai for a week, I wanted to go with her.  do I make my own reservation or can I use her reservation to show I am traveling with her?

I assume that you are going to apply for a L type one, RIGHT? If so, I think you can share the accommodation reservation with your wife. But you need to provide the round-trip air-tickets on your own.
