China Visa free period in Shanghai

Hi, we land in Shanghai from Canada on a Friday at 2:30pm. We are only staying and sightseeing in SH for 2 days and have a hotel booked. We are leaving SH from the same airport within the 72 hour period and are flying to Vietnam. I assume we qualify for this visa free period and do not need to get a tourist visa? I assume we land, get our bags and go through customs with our documents showing our hotel and departing flight and will be approved? Thank you for letting me know.
