Returning to Shanghai on a Temporary residence permit with a 2 month validity period on my passport

Will there be a problem trying to return to Shanghai with my 9 year-old daughter who has a temporary Chinese residence permit, as her mother is a Chinese National that resides in Shanghai, but she only has 2 months left on her passport before it expires. Because her mother lives in China, and we are in America, it's a headache trying to get it renewed here, so I am hoping we can get to Shanghai for a visit and renew her passport at the local American Consulate with her mother and I present to sign the application in the presence of the officer as required by law.

Hi, you'd better get your daughter's passport renewed in USA. As I know, China does not allow entrance if the holder's passport expires in under six months. The residence permit in the old passport is still ok for entry, so just bring both old and new passports then.
