Using copy of passport/visa for travel

I'm planning to take the train to a couple places later this month. I ran into a bit of a snag with my visa renewal processing and I won't have my passport for when I need to go. I was told it's acceptable to use photocopies of the visa, passport and a paper documenting that the passport is off for visa renewal.

Has anyone else done this before? I'd like to know it's okay before I buy the tickets.

Firstly, you need to get the prove document from the public security bureau, take your passport copy. Secondly, issue a temporary identification at the railway station. This temporary identification is only valid for one day use, if you take another train on the second day, you need to issue another one.
