Australian in Macau ->visiting Shanghai for a day

Hi, I'll be in macau for a 3 weeks, and I was hoping to pop into SH for a weekend (visit a friend), just wondering if a VISA is required, technically I would not be in transit to move onto another destination (thinking about the 72 hour visit visa), however I will be able to provide documentation for Aus->macau->Aus.
