Hi NZ citizen visiting Hyderabad wanting a Chinese tourist visa

Hello Visiting my New Zealand family in Hyderabad for 1 month on 1 July and have a have a tour booked to visit China 1 Aug after the visit. For application do I physically need to present myself to the Embassy/Consulate. If this is the case can I do this at the Consulate in Mumbai.

If you are now in New Zealand, why do you want to apply in Mumbai? I think it is easy for you to get one in New Zealand. Anyway, personal attendence is not required, you can entrust someone else to handle your application.
