Would a tourist visa work?

I work for a children's book author who is traveling to Beijing for a couple of weeks in November. He will be there for tourist reasons for a week or so, then he will be performing at a couple of schools for a few days. He is being paid to perform. Is it necessary for him to get an F? Also, does the inviting school have to get a work permit for him?

Hi, an business F is enough, an invitation letter from the school is required for F application. It is not necessary to get a work permit for this visit.
