Hi, if your wife has not found a job yet, she can apply for a dependent Z accompanying your work Z this time. But she can apply work Z directly if she got the work permit and invitation letter as you. Physical examination record is required to be done in USA for application if she plan to stay for more than 6 months.

I should ask the question this way. My wife doesn't have any job offer from shanghai. She is hoping to be able to work in shanghai after she accompany me . Also she is looking into counseling, which is usually self-employ. What should she do?

I see, just apply as a dependent at the time accompanying your Z for work. If she get a job after entry, she can change hers to a work Z without leaving. BTW, it her income is not from China, it is not necessary to apply for work Z or pay tax.
