I've travelled to China every 2-3 years for the past 15 years and have never had to pay a tax on camera equipment for personal use. (This is the first year that we'll be travelling with a smart phone and a tablet.) When did China start charging a tax for personal use electronic equipment? The last time I went to China was 2010.

I have been a few times (a couple were just this year) and I have never had to pay for bringing personal electronics.
